We have won the gold medal for Region 31 of Sweet Adelines International 7 times in total and in 2024 placed 9th in the world at the Sweet Adelines International Convention in Kansas City

The first barbershop chorus for women in Nottinghamshire was founded in 1992 by a group of teachers and students at Arnold Hill Comprehensive School. After two years of lunchtime rehearsals at the school, there was a need to take it all rather more seriously and the Lace City Chorus was born. Lace City Chorus now has around 80 members from all over the East Midlands.
We love to compete, and over the past three years have won a gold medal, silver medal and bronze medal in the SingUnited International (formerly Sweet Adelines) women's convention for Region 31
Our Music Director Ellie has been a member of Lace City Chorus since the age of 14. She was introduced to barbershop by her school teacher, and former Lace City director Glenn Chaney. Having been appointed as Interim Music Director in May 2020, Ellie accepted the role permanently in April 2021.
Later that year Ellie was appointed as a member of the Sweet Adelines Region 31 faculty in recognition of her many skills and talents. In 2022 she became a Sweet Adelines Master Director when the chorus scored more than 600 points at her first regional convention as Music Director and in 2024 she led the chorus to its first ever worldwide Top 10 medal at the international convention in Kansas City.
