Successful open rehearsal on Zoom
We were delighted to welcome 72 new faces as we virtually opened the doors of zoom and hosted an open rehearsal.
Visitors were given a taste of a virtual Lace City Chorus rehearsal which included an opportunity to explore their voice using a simple exercise. They then chose a voice part and in four break out rooms the Basses, Baritones, Leads and Tenors learnt a section of the Greatest Showman hit, This Is Me. After only 20 minutes everyone came together and sang through the song in four part harmony.
While the chorus aren’t able to meet in person we are still rehearsing each week. Members dial in from the comfort of their own homes and then it’s business as usual with a check in, physical and vocal warm up and dedicated music development.
Ellie Blackeby, Interim Music Director said: “It was great to see so many new faces and some familiar faces. While we aren’t able to rehearse in person, Zoom is working really well for the chorus and it was great to welcome so many people virtually.
“We’ve discovered some hidden perks of online rehearsals and hope it will encourage more people to join in and give it a go. I’m able to finish work, spend time with my children, put them to bed and still do a full rehearsal while other members now have time to enjoy a nice meal and put on their PJ’s before rehearsal starts.”
We have a three week singing course to launch in January so if you’re interested in joining us, for now on Zoom but eventually in person, please email: [email protected].
When it’s safe to do so, we cannot wait to be in the same room wrapping our arms around each other as we hear our chords ring but for now, rehearsing online is working, and we’d love to see you there.
Comments from visitors
“I can’t believe I haven’t heard of Lace City Chorus before, and I knew nothing about female barbershop. The women I had a chat with during the social break were so friendly and welcoming. It was a lovely way to spend a dark evening.
“I really enjoyed it and I’m very grateful for the opportunity and the hard work that must have gone into making this happen.”
“Wow, It was a lot of fun and a great challenge. I am extremely impressed by the high standard of your singing.”
