We are a chapter of Sweet Adelines International, based in Nottinghamshire, UK. We have won gold in the Region 31 (U.K., Ireland and Netherlands championship) six times. We won our 7th Gold in May 2017 and in October 2018 travelled to St Louis, USA to represent Region 31 at the international competition! We shared the stage with amazing ladies from across the world and are delighted to be 16th in the world!

We won gold

Celebrations all round as the chorus celebrate winning gold at the Sweet Adelines Region 31 competition in Newcastle.

Glenn Chaney, Director of Lace City Chorus, is delighted that the chorus will now compete in the world championship in St Louis in Missouri.

He said:  “I couldn't be more proud of the chorus, not only for the championship winning performance but also for the way every singer committed to the preparation. It is a huge privilege to direct this amazing group of fabulous women.”

At the national championship, the women performed ‘I have dreamed’ from hit musical The King and I and jazz hit ‘I Got Rhythm’ composed by George Gershwin which incorporated colourful choreography including director Glenn being dragged across the floor.

Chorus performs at National Signing Choir contest

On Saturday 11th March we were thrilled to be part of the very first National Signing Choir Competition.

This wasn’t our first experience of signing musicians. Last October we organised a concert with local music groups and one of our guest acts was Radcliffe Community Signing Choir. The finale of the evening was to be Elbow’s One Day Like This and all of our guests would join in. In the weeks leading up to the concert we rehearsed with the choir and learnt the signs for the chorus of One Day Like This. It was more challenging than learning choreography! As we watched the signing choir perform that night we were in awe of the emotion and feeling that went into each song.

We're off to the Southwell Music Fringe Festival!

We love taking our music to all sorts of audiences and we're really looking forward to this event.

Southwell is well known as a centre of high quality music. If you've ever had the pleasure of attending an event at the Minster you'll know what I mean. The Southwell Music Festival is a fairly recent addition to the musical calendar but it's a great chance to experience all sorts of classical music and there is something for everyone. Check out the link at the end of this post.

Whilst our typical repertoire doesn't include much classical music (hence we're in the Fringe) we have been brushing up on a couple of old favourites!

Lace City welcomes 10 new singers

Learning the art of barbershop is no mean feat but 10 new singers have risen to the challenge and completed our induction programme becoming official members of Lace City Chorus.

Lace City Launches Hugely Popular Singing Course!

Lace City Chorus launched another of its popular singing courses on Nov 2nd. Over 75 women from all over Nottinghamshire attended the first of 6 rehearsals. The course will run for 6 weeks. Participants will be included in the chorus Christmas shows, which will be held at Nottingham Trent University On Dec 12th.

In 2015 Nottinghamshire County Council provided LCC with a grant of £2,450 to enable women from all over the county, and of average singing ability, the opportunity to rehearse and perform with a world class a cappella singing chorus. Over 140 women and girls have learnt and rehearsed new songs which they then performed at a number of concerts in venues around the county.

Competing in Las Vegas!

In October 2015, our chorus members flew to Las Vegas to compete in the Sweet Adelines International Convention which is the World Championships of barbershop singing. Over 30 regional winning choruses from around the world competed in the semi-finals, with the top 10 going through to the final. Lace City placed 16th, with the highest place and highest score of any UK chorus.

Lace City Chorus Recognised as a Charity
